Tolstoy once said If, then, I were asked for the most important advice I could give, that which I considered to be the most useful to the men of our century, I should simply say: in the name of God, stop a moment, cease your work, look around you.
You can spend so much time doing whatever you need to do to feel a deeper sense of security that you forget what’s in front of you. Last Autumn I had the privilege of participating in a magical conversation with three other people. Although I reached out to the two men I did not know beforehand to continue the conversation, only one came back to me. I have just found out that the other has died. It was a reminder to me that our time on this planet is brief and I felt a certain amount of sadness that I had missed the opportunity to reconnect with this inspiring individual.
In many ways the story of what happened in the Garden of Eden is an allegory for the journey of humanity. We gained the gift of self-awareness and the price for that was also the creation of the ego, that sense of pain and suffering as we feel separate from the Allness. At the same time we took a great leap in our consciousness and became thinkers. We have created all sorts of clever constructs and gained so much knowledge and yet we still suffer because it is rare to feel the continuous connection to all things.
The pain ebbs and flows and yet each of us has a core wound that was seeded in us at the point of our creation. You cannot think your way out of the pain. When you feel really lost or disorientated that is often when the interference frequency overcomes you. In those moments you end up in repeating patterns of behaviour that exhaust you and those around you. You may feel stuck or find the motivation to carry on is lacking or low – that’s the point at which gentleness and kindness is needed. It is through such nurturing that the possibility to reconnect occurs and you notice the synchronicities that life is offering again.
You cannot use force of will to bring about a different outcome. If you do you will become exhausted. The first step is to recognise that it is your mind causing the block. If you can get out of your head, something that colour enables, then quite possibly a shift in your DNA will be activated and you will notice awareness bubbling up inside you.
